چکیده

Introduction: Liver is considered to be a highly radio-resistant organ on the criterion of morphological changes, radiation hepatitis and radiation necrosis of the liver. However, whole body radiation exposure may induce a variety of additional effects that can be expressed at cellular and tissue levels like generation of oxidative stress, alteration in gene transcription or changes in signal transduction, which ultimately has cumulative effect on the metabolic status of cell or tissue. High resolution H NMR spectroscopy is established as a tool for investigating the metabolic consequences of drug as well as environmental toxicity. Therefore, present study has been planned to use NMR spectroscopy technique to uncover metabolic response of liver in mice when exposed to a moderate dose of ionising radiation.

Modulation of radiation induced changes in nucleic acid content of liver of Swiss albino mouse by Tinospora cordifolia (Miers)

Background: Radiotherapy is the main modality of cancer treatment. There are many chemical radioprotectors which unfortunately have lethal or toxic effect. Therefore the search is on to find out natural plant based radioprotectors. A well known medicinal plant, which is more acceptable to the body, Tinospora cordifolia, was tested in animal tissues against gamma radiations. Radioprotectiv...

Protective role of ferulic acid against the damaging effect induced by electromagnetic waves on rat liver and intestine tissues

Background: the increasing use of mobile phones in daily life causes many concerns about their effects on human health. Therefore, this work was designed to study the effects of exposure to 1800 MHz electromagnetic waves (EMW) on the liver and intestine of male albino rats and the protective role of ferulic acid (FA) against these harmful effects. Materials and Methods: twenty-four male albino ...

Panorganismal Metabolic Response Modeling of an Experimental Echinostoma caproni Infection in the Mouse

Metabolic profiling of host tissues and biofluids during parasitic infections can reveal new biomarker information and aid the elucidation of mechanisms of disease. The multicompartmental metabolic effects of an experimental Echinostoma caproni infection have been characterized in 12 outbred female mice infected orally with 30 E. caproni metacercariae each, using a further 12 uninfected animals...

VARIATIONS OF GLUCOSE 6-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE ACTIVITY IN VARIOUS TISSUES INDUCED BY METABOLIC ALKALOSIS, ACIDOSIS AND DIABETES

The effects of chronic metabolic acidosis, alkalosis and alloxan-induced ketoacidosis on G6PD activity of rat kidney, liver and erythrocytes were studied. Metabolic acidosis significantly increased the activity of kidney enzyme (55%) but decreased the liver (43%) and erythrocyte (38%) enzyme activities. Alkalosis did not make a significant change in the kidney or liver enzyme activity but ...

Adaptive Response Induced by Pre-Exposure to 915 MHz Radiofrequency: A Possible Role for Antioxidant Enzyme Activity

Background: Over the past few years, the rapid use of high frequency electromagnetic fields like mobile phones has raised global concerns about the negative health effects of its use. Adaptive response is the ability of a cell or tissue to better resist stress damage by prior exposure to a lesser amount of stress. This study aimed to assess whether radiofrequency radiation can induce adaptive r...
